Raymond Allen Lathey, 67, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1949 in Leon, W. Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1970. Raymond was an avid reader and enjoyed being outdoors, whether it meant cutting wood, mowing lawns, or watching the birds and squirrels in his yard. Underneath a ""tough guy"" exterior, he was a kind and patient man who was willing to do anything for those to whom he was closest. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, John W. Lathey and Effie S. Lathey; mother, Jeri Lizut and many aunts and uncles. Surviving are a brother, Larry Link; sister, Karen Link; brother, Randy Link; sister, Laura Link; uncle and aunt, Larry and Shirley Sult; aunt, Maxine Bearden; uncle, George Popovich; aunt, Doris Lathey; aunt, Alice Lathey; numerous cousins and special friends, Mickey and Gina Smith and Bob and Renee Dancy. A visitation will be held from 5:45-6:45 PM Thursday, February 2, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2016 at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Leon, W. Va.
