Raymond R. Kimel, Jr.

Raymond Rufus Kimel, Jr., 85, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. 

Raymond was born on November 8, 1938, in Forsyth County, the only child of the late Raymond Rufus Kimel, Sr. and Mildred Foye Kimel. He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and attended Wake Forest University, where he played on the Demon Deacon’s baseball team. 

Raymond was employed as a Machine Operator at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., where he retired from in April 1991 after 32 years of service. 

He loved the beach and enjoyed many fun times at the family’sbeach condo. Raymond cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved to watch NASCAR races and sports of any kind. 

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Irene Eads Kimel. 

Surviving family includes his son, Raymond Bennett (Benny)Kimel; daughter, Susan Singletary (Joel McClamrock); grandchildren, Jennifer Matthews (Patrick) and Brian Singletary (Katie); great-grandchildren, Morgan Singletary, Corey Matthews, Meredith Singletary and Justin Matthews; three cousins, Ricky Kimel, Robin Kimel and Debra Conrad; and many friends and extended family members. 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Rev. Tom Leonard officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff and physicians at Forsyth Medical Center ICU for the loving care and compassion they showed to Raymond.
