Ray William Shaw

Ray William Shaw, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away August 21, 2014, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 12, 1925 to Ray Elisha and Sue Johnson Shaw in Statesville. Ray was an active member of Parkway Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member of ""The Group"", a Christian men's chorus. Ray worked in the wholesale auto parts business, working most of his career for Devlin Supply Company, and later retiring from Auto Supply. Ray was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved working in the yard and was outside most Saturdays. He loved singing in the choir and with ""The Group"". Ray also loved his family, especially his grandson, Will, who he never tired of talking about. He was a kind, Christian man who lived his faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Pfaff, and two brothers, Hiram Shaw and Francis Shaw. Ray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Hoffman Shaw, of the home; daughters, Melinda Toppenberg and Lisa Hooke; son-in-law, Robert Hooke; and grandson, William (Will). He is also survived by sisters, Evelyn Styron, Ruby Wyatt (Richard), Margie Blackburn, Diane Severt, Carol Henson (Tom); sister-in-law, Bettie Shaw; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Parkway Presbyterian Church with Dr. Cecil Cave and the Rev. S. Neill Shaw officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm on Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church, 1000 Yorkshire Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
