Ray Scott “Rayboy” Miller born November 27, 1935, to Otto and Bessie Miller in Boone, NC, and left us on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to be with the Lord. Ray moved from Boone, NC to Lexington, NC to work at Coble Dairy and Dixie Furniture prior to going into the Army in 1958, and then returning to Dixie Furniture. In 1967 he started working at Roadway Express and moved to Kernersville, NC and worked there until he retired in July of 1994. Rayboy enjoyed his retirement by being outside working and spending time with his grandsons. Along his journey he made many longtime friends. Ray never met a stranger and talked to everyone. He would do and help others when he could- you might walk out your door and find a bag of vegetables from the garden sitting on your porch. He attended The Crossing Church in Kernersville, NC. He also would hang out at Colfax 66 and the store with Earnest, M.K., Bud, and many others, or get breakfast with his roadway friends, where they would get the daily news and trade tales. He was always telling a story, making a joke, or pulling a prank to get someone to laugh. Ray will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wilma Coble Miller; daughter, Melinda Matthews (Stuart); son, Michael Miller (Rodelia); three grandsons, Cody Ray Matthews (Montana), Miguel Scott and Mackey James Miller.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bessie Miller; brothers, Lee Miller, Claude Miller, Stanley Miller, James Miller; a sister Nina Greene; nephews, William Miller, Clyde Miller and Jimmy Miller; As well as many dear friends, including Dean Price and Nick Miller.
A special thank you to son-in-law Stuart Matthews for all the help and dedication of time to Ray. Your kindness does not go unnoticed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at The Crossing Church in Kernersville. A visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in the Mausoleum Chapel.
