Ray Alvis Jones

Mr. Ray Alvis Jones, 87, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Salemtowne Moravian Retirement Community. He was born December 21, 1924 in Lexington, the son of the late, Asbury Crouse and Nodie Suzannah Tucker Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Messiah Moravian Church where he served as treasurer for 40 years. He was also a member of the band and choir and served on numerous church and provincial boards. He was a graduate of Griffith School and NC State College. He served with the US Navy during World War II and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a member of the Winston-Salem Engineer Club for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Cash Jones; and brother Wade Thomas Jones. Survivors include two sons, Ron Jones and wife, Linda of Pungoteague, VA and Keith Jones and wife, Linda of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren, John Jones of Lewisville, David Jones and wife, Holly of Clermont, FL, Becky Jones serving with the Peace Corps in Benin, West Africa, Nicholas Shore and wife, Mary Frances of Raleigh, and Jeremy Jones of NC State University in Raleigh; three great grandchildren, Zoe and Tovah Shore of Raleigh and Victoria Elizabeth Jones of Clermont, FL; one sister, Bettie Cook of Winston-Salem; one brother, David Preston Jones and wife, Betty Jean of New Bern; one brother-in-law, Marvin Cash and wife, Audrey of Eden; two sisters-in-law, Doris Ann Goble of Clemmons and Mary Linebach Jones of Wilson; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM at Messiah Moravian Church with Rev. Truman Dunn and Chaplain Linda Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
