Ray Blackburn

Mr. Ray Blackburn, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away February 5, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 20, 1932 in Wilkes County to the late Levi and Celie Holman Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was a former member of Lewisville Baptist Church and attended Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and retired from Bell South / AT&T with 43 years of service. He was an avid golfer at Tanglewood Golf Club. Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his parents, and twelve sisters and brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita Hartzog Blackburn; two daughters, Kathy Blackburn Gupton (Johnny) and Jill Blackburn Cawley (Jon); four grandchildren, Melody Gupton, Kendall Cawley, Cameron Cawley (Antonia) and Simon Cawley and a brother, Bruce Blackburn. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
