Mr. Ralph Harrison Simmons, 92, of Winston-Salem, went to be with the Lord January 2, 2012. He was born December 23, 1919 to Minnie Mae and Vander Lewis Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a tobacco farmer until 1950 and a retired truck driver of 31 years. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne Eliza Frye Simmons; a son, Donald Ray Simmons; three sisters, Ruby Simmons, Pearl Simmons and Virginia Cain; a grandchild, Jason Lemar and a great grandchild, Tristen Williams. Surviving are his two sons, Dwight Simmons (Peggy) and Billy Simmons (Sharon); two daughters, Sandra Robertson and Patricia Wahlfeldt (Melvin); nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hochmuth and Rev. Steve Kerhoulas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
