Ralph Joseph 'R.J.' Shutt, Jr.

Mr. Ralph Joseph ""R.J."" Shutt, Jr., 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Village Care of King. He was born September 12, 1920 in Forsyth County to Ralph Joseph Shutt, Sr. and Pearlie Thomas Shutt. Mr. Shutt was a lifelong member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was retired from Western Electric as a tool and dye maker with 35 ½ years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Stone Shutt; and three sisters, Edith Cumby, Margaret Aldridge and Faye Southern. Surviving are two daughters, Susan S. Jennings and husband Alan of Jacksonville, FL and Teresa S. Hix and husband Darrell of Buchanan, VA; three sons, Joseph R. Shutt of Mauldin, SC, Rickie L. Shutt and wife Beckie of Lewisville and Mark D. Shutt and wife Jane of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Brent and David Shutt, Courtney Hawkins, Jonathan, Daniel, and Michael Shutt, Dawson and Evan Hix; six great grandchildren, Olivia and Brady Shutt, Isabella, Genevieve and Seraphina Shutt, and Andruw Hawkins; and a brother, Richard Shutt and wife Shirley of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
