Winston Salem-Ralph Thomas Kiger, Sr., 81, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1927 in Rockingham Co. to the late Ernest and Mary Carter Kiger. Ralph retired from R.J. Reynolds and was a member of Glenn View Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during WWII and fought in the Korean War. He was a very special husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Stephen Kiger and a daughter, Phyllis Elaine Kiger-Hewett. Surviving are his wife, Gracie Carter Kiger of the home; a son, Ralph Kiger, Jr. and wife Janet of Kernersville; a brother, Lewis Kiger of Winston Salem; four sisters, Helen Roland of Lenoir, Jane George, and Martha Motsinger both of Winston Salem, and Judy Eller of Walkertown; four granddaughters, Amber Hill, Amy Hill, April Pope, and Natalie Kiger; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Glenn View Baptist Church with the Rev. William R. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel Memorials may be directed to Glenn View Baptist Church, 4275 Glenn High Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27107.
