Mr. Ralph Wayne Hester, 74, of Walkertown passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at his home. Mr. Hester was born on October 5, 1939 in Forsyth County to James Ralph and Annie Fulp Hester. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Wayne was an active member of Walkertown First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Wayne was a proud graduate from Walkertown High School's class of 1958 and he retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 38 years of service. Wayne faithfully served his community as Councilman for the Town of Walkertown, since 2005, and also as Mayor pro tem. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, baseball, and also baking pies and cakes, especially ""The Hester Buttermilk Pie"" for family and friends. Wayne never met a stranger and was a true friend to anyone that had the privilege to know him. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, JoAnn Neal; three brothers, Doug, Ronnie, and Edward Hester; and four nieces. Wayne was a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Randi for 49 years, their love and commitment to one another is a true testament of marriage. Their beautiful union produced two children, Melissa Hester James and husband Steve of Florida, and Brian Wayne Hester and wife Melissa of Tennessee. He was a loving Papa to his surviving grandchildren, Dalton, Madison, Abigail and Summer James, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Brooklyn and Isabella Hester, and Matthew Powers. He is also survived by a sister, Becky Gourley of Walkertown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Walkertown First Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to send a special thanks to Wayne's doctors, nurses, and staff for for their compassionate and special care. The family would also like to extend a thank you for all the prayers and concerns that everyone has shown to Wayne over the last eight years.
