Celebration of Life for Rain Martinez
Rain Aleese Martinez, born to Amy Gilmore, completed her life on May 12th, 2018.
Although her mom, Amy, named her Rain, she was often described as a ray of sunshine. Her natural light was so evident in her beautiful smile.
Rain's heart was so empathetic that she couldn't tolerate harm to even the smallest of creatures. She loved all animals species and stayed a worrier for the underdog. She also could not tolerate unkind treatment of people.
Before her sixth grade year in middle school started, Rain spoke with her Mom about how girls are still beautiful despite loosing their hair due to cancer treatments. She felt it was unfair for anyone to feel a lack of beauty due to outside appearance. Therefore two days prior to stepping into a new middle school, Rain took a pair of hair clippers and pridefully shaved her hair as short as possible! She loved it. With head held high she rocked flower crowns on some days, or simply bald on others! That was our Rain.
She loved to paint, draw, water color, write, design with ceramics and invent. Another interest of Rain's was film production and she had started investigating all aspects of theater production from acting to stage set up, music and lighting. She had aspirations to obtain her first degree, once out of high school, at NC School of the Arts in Winston Salem.
Rain also held a special interest in photography. She enjoyed her Polaroid Instant camera, as well as her digital camera, and there was no end to her photo shoots by herself or with friends and cousins, using her Grandma's camera! She spent many hours editing her photos and posting them throughout her room!
Rain adapted a love of sewing from her Mom and Grandma. She received her first sewing machine at age 12, but had been hand sewing personal outfits, bags, patches, and clothes for her stuffed animals long before she got her machine.
Rain's life was filled with fun and adventure that many adults never achieve. Her Mom took her to the Western United States to Arizona where they flew over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter. They traveled through Texas stopping at sites along the way.
Rain loved her adventure in Missouri to the "Gateway to the West" at the top of the Arch in St. Louis.
Amy and Rain's adventures also included fun explorations in Savannah, GA, Tybee Island, GA, New Bern NC, Hilton Head, SC, Carolina Beach, NC, Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of NC and sight seeing in New York City.
They had many local adventures closer to home in Boone, Blowing Rock and Asheville, NC. They hiked Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock as well as hiking a mile down into the Grand Canyon.
Rain's Grandma Debbie loved her company on their many trips to and from North Carolina and Michigan, (Rain's birthplace).
Rain along with her family had started a family tradition of adventures and explorations to the Outer Banks of NC each summer.
Rain can be described as a peace maker. She forgave, looked for good qualities, but not to say she wasn't fisty or opinionated because she displayed those attributes too!
Over all, she never liked conflict, or to be at odds with her friends. She was the glue to her crew of friends.
For the past couple of years Rain had been researching the importance of bee life and was concerned with Bumble Bees now showing up on the endangered species list.
She had picked out flowers for planting to help promote the survival of bees and found bamboo bee houses to hang in the back yard.
So now Rain's flowers have been planted, her sunflowers are growing tall in Grandma's garden, and the bee houses have been hung from tree branches in the back yard.
Her mission is in progress!
So many are left behind with memories of laughter and gifts that were hand made by Rain.
She was a child full of gratitude and expressed thanks her Mom often.
It's been said that some people are born with big hearts that beat stronger and harder for a short period of time rather than for the longevity of time.
Rain was like one of those rare flowers that bloom for a short period of time and if you miss that beauty, you truly missed out on such a rare moment.
To Know Her Is To Love Her.
Rain's family asked that you plant wild flowers and plants that will help to sustain bee health in memory of our beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece, and cousin.
