Mr. Raford Henry ""Boompop"" Estep, Jr. passed away Wednesday March 11, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Ray was born November 15, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Raford and Annie Estep. Ray was a member of Vienna Civic Club and a lifelong member of Christ Moravian Church, where he was involved in mission trips with the youth. He always put others first above himself and gave a lot of his time volunteering with many organizations and events. Some of those include March of Dimes Chili cook-off, Samaritan Ministries' soup kitchen, Sunny Side Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity. On top of volunteering Ray enjoyed gardening and playing golf with his fellow church members. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Estep; a son Steve Estep and wife Sharon K. of Asheville; and a grandson Lee Martin Estep. A funeral service will be held at Christ Moravian Church Saturday March 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM; with Dr. Neil Routh officiating. The burial will be immediately following at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
