Rachel P. Snow

Mrs. Rachel Louise Poplin Snow, 80, was called home to be with the Lord and her husband on October 12, 2008. Rachel was born in Concord, NC to Lester Keith Poplin and Wilma Louise Helms Poplin on August 28, 1928. Her family later moved to Hanes Town, NC where as a teenager she met Fred Snow. Their courtship began when he saw her sitting on the porch shining her Daddy's shoes and he asked if she would shine his too. They were married on March 2, 1946. Their loving and devoted marriage resulted in three children, nine grandbabies, eighteen great grandbabies, and countless happy memories. Fred and Rachel always expressed their amazement of all that grew from their love of one another. Rachel enjoyed her role and responsibilities as wife, mother, and homemaker. Rachel believed in the importance of church and family. As a member of Clemmons Moravian Church for over 50 years, she attended church regularly as long as her health permitted and participated in Circle Group. Throughout her life, Rachel thoughtfully and selflessly cared for others. In her younger years, she loved regularly spending time with her mother, sisters and daughter; camping with her husband in the mountains; and feeding and watching the birds. Rachel enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, cooking and baking. Her family especially liked Ma Ma's pound cake, pecan pie, chocolate pie, and Moravian sugar cake. No one can make them quite like hers. Rachel always cherished time with family and friends. Get-togethers often involved her laughing until crying at the telling of old stories and her fear of spiders. Rachel will be dearly remembered as a caring and loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all. Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Wilma; her husband, Fred Lee Snow; her sisters, Penny Campbell and Lenora Day and her brothers, Keith Poplin and Ray Von Poplin. Surviving are her sister and brothers, Maxine Snow and Don Poplin, both of Winston-Salem and Bob Poplin of Corpus Christi, TX; her daughter, Gwen Brandon and husband Wayne of Clemmons; her two sons, Fred Snow Jr. and wife Lynn of Forest, VA and Jack Snow and wife Bonnie of Mocksville; nine grandchildren, Jeff Snow and wife Wendy, Mark Snow and wife Jamie, Kristy Mistretta and husband Steve, Angie Stanley and husband David, Brian Brandon and wife Kristina, LeighAnn Brandon, Mandy Walker and husband Cole, Jennifer Hire and husband Carlton and Kathy Snow; eighteen great grandchildren, Jacob, Brittany, Matthew, Timmy, Hunter, Kayla, Katie, Karsen, Anna Leigh, Mason, Gavin, Melody, Bailey, Emma, Lawson, Luke, Chloe and Landon. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Q. Ray Burke officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:30-8:30 Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
