Rachel Mabe Smith

WAKE FOREST - Mrs. Rachel Mabe Smith, 88, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Carolina House of Wake Forest. Rachel was born on October 8, 1926 in Forsyth County to Walter Roy and Cora Cates Mabe. She was one of 11 children born to the Mabe Family. After finishing sixth grade, Rachel stayed home to help raise her brothers and sisters. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a kindred spirit and was a member of New Birth Baptist Church of Walnut Cove.
In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, A.L. Smith, Jr.; a daughter, Faye Haithcox; and her brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her daughter, Sherry Green and husband, Gary; granddaughter, Heather Elliott and husband, Adam; great granddaughter, Emery Grace Elliott; two sons, Alvin and James Haithcox.
A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 4:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Floral Gardens Memorial Park.
