KERNERSVILLE - Rachel Irene Stafford Potts , 88, died March 15, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Pneumonia and complications. She was born in Kernersville, North Carolina on February 14, 1925 to Purvis Leland Stafford and Martha Jane Crews Stafford, the youngest of their eight children who include Lillian Stafford, Roy Stafford, Clarence (Dutch) Stafford, Lawrence Stafford, Kermit Stafford, Ada Belle Marshall and Evelyn Fulp, all of whom preceded her in death. Rachel is survived by her children, Phillip Glenn Potts and wife, Cathy and Suzanne Beane Stafford. Grandchildren include H. Justin Stafford-Wilson and wife, Marie, Daegan Lewis Stafford-Crews and Malissa Dawn Potts (deceased). Rachel's Paternal Grandparents were Edward Stafford and Adam Payne Stafford; Maternal Grandparents were Edward Crews and Belle Stafford Crews. Rachel is the former wife of James Carl Watts Beane and Clayton Phillip Potts, both deceased. Rachel was an active member and former Sunday School Teacher of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church of Kernersville, North Carolina and attended the Davis Class Sunday School until her hospital confinement. She was formerly a member of Fairmount Park United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. She attended Kernersville Elementary and High Schools and Norfolk's Business College. She was by profession, a seamstress and alterationist. She served as the Bunker Hill Correspondent for the Kernersville News, worked with the Tidewater, Virginia Cancer Society, the Norfolk District's Parent Student Teacher Association, served as an Election Poll worker, for two decades coordinated the Bunker Hill Stafford Reunion, and held various offices for United Methodist Women in the Norfolk District of the United Methodist Church. She hosted in her home many international guests for the US-Russian Mayor to Mayor Program and the US Congress' Open World Program. She was a vital force in raising initial monies and medical relief for the combined Conferences of the North Carolina United Methodist Church's Project AGAPE for Armenia. A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor David M. Rorie officiating.
