Mr. R. Bennie Rumfelt, 74, of Clemmons passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a long journey with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy. He was born in McDowell County and was the son of the late Roland S. Rumfelt and Virginia S. Rumfelt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank; and step-father, Martin L. Carswell. Mr. Rumfelt was a 1955 graduate of Marion High School and attended Appalachian State University. He was retired from N.C. Department of Transportation as Materials Engineer and Vulcan Materials Company. He was a member of Lexington Downtown Lions Club as long as his health permitted. He served as District Governor of District 31-E from 1977-1978 and later as Statewide White Cane Chairman and was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. He loved the beach and playing golf. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Lynda Rader Rumfelt of Clemmons; two daughters, Deborah Buchalter and husband Jeff, and Elizabeth Alberding; two sons, Jeffery Rumfelt and wife Denise and Gregory Rumfelt; five grandchildren, Brandon and Hannah Buchalter, Kevin Rumfelt, Alex and Nicole Bowman. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Chaplain Craig Walker and the Rev. Christa Warise officiating.
