R. Gwyn Johnston

Mr. R. Gwyn Johnston, 83, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home. He was born September 24, 1930 in Ashe County to Edwin C. and Fannie Hartzog Johnston. Mr. Johnston attended Griffith Baptist Church for forty years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Johnston; and a sister, Bernice Beshears. Surviving is his wife, Sarah Laurence Johnston of the home; his siblings, Ruby Watson (Kenneth) of Clemmons, Dale Johnston (Gail) of Lewisville, Rachel Ward (George) of Manning, SC and Sylvia Ketner of West Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Laurence Cemetery, in Fleetwood, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The family requested no flowers, but memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 9300 Railroad Grade Rd., Fleetwood, NC 28626.
