Priscilla "Jean" Wooten

Priscilla “Jean” Wooten, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 15, 2022. She was born on a Sunday, May 14, 1944, to the late Thomas Eugene Wooten and Doris Lee Foster Wooten.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Wooten and her beloved son, Randy Smith.

Mama leaves to mourn her absence, her son, Richard Smith (Sherry); her daughters Renee Smith (Gordon) and Robin Shoemaker (Mike); her beloved pets, Jackson, Bentley, and Little Bit; her grandchildren, Jacey Draughn (Brett), Richard Smith (Stephanie), Olivia Smith, Julius Maxwell, Logan Thayer (Thomas) Ryan Smith (Alycia Buckley) and twins, Blake Shoemaker (Lauren Frappièr) and Brady Shoemaker.  Mama also had five great grandchildren, Leyton, Wyatt, Sawyer, Skylar, and Letty.  She also leaves behind her brother, Ronnie Wooten (Pat) and special lifelong friends, Jean Mumford Childers, Debbie “Butch” Callahan and Sherry Revis along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mama attended Gray High School. Her employment career consisted mostly of Shipping and Receiving. She worked for Dillard Paper, HQ, Westinghouse and worked for Major League Lanes for many years.

Mama had an incredible, unimaginable zest for life. She had a great sense of humor, loved to be around her family watching the Panthers play and sharing an abundance of laughter when we were all together for family functions cutting up and poking fun at one another. Mama was a talented and amazing athlete who was an avid softball player who played many, many years on travel teams and locally. She was also an outstanding and avid bowler where she also traveled for many tournaments.  On each of these travels she was surrounded by good friends, good drinks, and abundant laughter.  Mama also loved going to the beach with her mama, her aunts, and her friends in tow.  Together, they loved to go to their favorite place and sing karaoke.

Mama had many friends whom she spent time with at Sherry’s (APC) in Clemmons for many, many years where she also spent her time cutting up profusely and singing karaoke with her best friend who was her mama, her aunt and her friends. When I say they sang karaoke, I meant pretty much only “Elvira” and “We are Family”.

Our Mama was quite a pistol and would certainly let us four kids know that no matter how grown or big we got, she would always be able to take us down….and we believed her.

If Mama were writing this herself, she would want to express her gratitude to her son Ricky for coming to take her to run her errands and if she were not feeling well, to run her errands for her at any time on any day. To her daughter Renee for religiously calling her early every single morning to check on her, to know about her planned day and just to tell her she loved her.  To her son and daughter, Randy, and Robin to thank them for the amazing memories of being able to share the love of softball and all the memories of playing co-ed together on the same team for many years. To her granddaughter Jacey who was the apple of her eye, whom she could always count on to get her to her medical appointments, be her voice at those appointments, cleaning her house and sharing baked potatoes from Goody’s. Lastly but certainly not least, Mama would want to express her gratitude to her special brother Ronnie and Pat who were always there for her, supported her  and loved her unconditionally and for all the delicious meals they cooked for her and she would definitely want her special nephew Jeff to know how much she appreciated him checking in on her, planting trees for her and for picking her up to take her to the dinner dates that  Ronnie and Pat prepared for her.

Mama loved us all very much and we know she ran fastest to her son Randy but also did an excellent sprint to reunite with her best friend, her mama. She would also want all her family and friends to know how much you meant to her and would thank you immensely for all the memories, the fun and the laughs she shared with us along the way here on her time on earth.  May you Rest in Peace Mama, know that we all love you and it’s not goodbye, it’s till we see you again.

Mama’s service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 with Bro. Jerry Mathis officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
