KERNERSVILLE – Preston Arthur Grammer, Jr., 76, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 from complications of diabetes and Covid.
Preston was born on April 4, 1944 in Petersburg, VA to Preston, Sr. and Lois Grammer. At age 8, Preston was taken into the Phillingane Family as a foster child and was raised as their own, and remained a part of their family for the rest of his life, very grateful for their love. Preston, himself, grew to love the outdoors – camping, hunting, boating, golfing and traveling – especially enjoying family vacations at Myrtle Beach and Florida. He was a very loving, hands-on father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
Preston worked for Plantation Pipeline Company for 27 years and later for Philip Morris Tobacco Company before retiring.
In addition to his parents, Preston was preceded in death by his foster parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
Surviving are his two daughters, Julianne Spradlin (Jason) of Blowing Rock, NC, and Stephanie Summers (Ben) of Decatur, TN; mother of his children, Becky Vaughan Grammer; four grandchildren, Alex Stofanik (fiance’, Taylor Self), Lennon, Lane, and Bodhi Spradlin; half sisters, Connie & Rose; many loving nieces and nephews; extended foster family members who were also dear to him; and many special friends.
A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family extends a special thanks to Preston’s caregiver, Edie Kadoche, for her loving support and care.
