Pleasant "P.H." Smith

Pleasant H. Smith, 94, of Naples, FL and Kernersville, NC passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014. Pleasant ""P.H."" was born in Forsyth County to Clifton H. and Claudia W. Smith on February 24, 1920. He married Lois Virginia Holder in 1940. Pleasant enjoyed careers, including farming, a landscaping business and working with the City of Winston-Salem Recreation Department until his retirement. His love of community enabled him to be one of the key organizers for the Beeson's Cross Roads Volunteer Fire Department in the mid-1950's. Due to his Interest in horses, he worked with others to organize and establish the Tarheel Riding Club in the early 1960's. His way with people, keen and creative mind and physical strength allowed him to stay busy working with his hands throughout his years. He lived up to his name, Pleasant, to all who knew him.
His recent years were spent in Naples, Fl enjoying the gulf views from his deck and relaxing after many years of hard work.
He was preceded in death by Lois in 1996, his wife of 56 years.
Pleasant is survived by his daughters, Lorita S. Pardue(Terry) of Naples, Fl and Delane S. Everhart of Mint Hill, NC; granddaughter, Teresa P. Phillips (Bob) of Wilmington, NC; grandson Koyt Everhart III of Charlotte, NC; sisters Willo Mae S. Watson and Duanna S. Nichols of Kernersville; Brother David J. Smith(Betty) of Kernersville and Betty Jones, his friend of many years, of Kernersville.
Cherished by family and friends, Pleasant will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
