Phyllis Elizabeth Shaffer Surface

Ms. Phyllis Elizabeth Shaffer Surface, 73, of Kenly, NC, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015, at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She was born on September 1, 1941 in Greensboro, NC to the late Philip Columbus Shaffer and Sally Elizabeth Gough Shaffer. Phyllis was a dedicated nurse and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Ms. Surface is survived by one daughter, Karen Routh; two sons, Kevin Harper and wife, Barrie and John Lyon and wife, Alison; five grandchildren, Wendy Pendergraph and husband, Richard, Shannon Chamblee and husband, Don, Amanda Brooks, Samantha Harper and Levi Lyon; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Cherry Newsom and husband, Kim; one brother, Daniel Shaffer and wife, Lou; two aunts, Mary Sue King and Bernice Gough; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor David McGee officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
