Phyllis Ann Smith Jones, ""Phoebe"", 81, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011, after many years of living with severe rheumatoid arthritis. Her life was a testament to the will of the human soul to endure pain and suffering while maintaining a vibrant and infectious love of life. Her phenomenal strength of character left an indelible impression on everyone she met and who knew and loved her. Phyllis graduated from Gray High School, retired from Hanes Knitting Co., and worked at Hunter Publishing Company before finally having to retire completely due to her health. She devoted her life to care for her husband, Bill, who was a paraplegic for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Marshall Smith; father, George Bunyon (GB) Smith, her husband, Bill; nine brothers and sisters and 16 nieces and nephews. She is survived by her only child, Janice Jones Entinghe, who was blessed enough to have her live with her for the last six years of her life; a very special niece who was near and dear to her heart, Jill Jones Canter, and two wonderful and loving family friends, Kathy Richardson and Susan Batten. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27106. On line condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
