Phyllis Hewitt

Phyllis Beattie Hewitt, age 87, passed away on March 30, 2022, in McKinney, Texas. Phyllis was born on January 20, 1935, in Lincolnton, NC. She was the daughter of Raymond Edward Beattie and Edna Caldwell Beattie. Phyllis was an accomplished student. She was an honor graduate of Lincolnton High School, graduated from Clevenger College of Business Administration, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Associate Degree in Divinity, Winston-Salem State University, B.A. History, and M.A. N.C. A&T University. She was married to Dr.  Gerald Neal Hewitt on April 16, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2009. Together they served several Southern Baptist Churches during their marriage. Phyllis was a homemaker, a volunteer, and enjoyed playing her piano and antique pump organ. She was an active member of the Winston-Salem Woman’s Club prior to leaving Winston-Salem in 2007. Phyllis taught English as a Second Language at Forsyth Technical Community College after her children were grown.  Phyllis is survived by her three children, Timothy Hewitt (Terry) of McKinney TX, Angela Dunn (Timothy) of Raleigh, NC, and Scott Hewitt of Decatur, Georgia; three grandchildren, five great-children; her sister, Kay Justice of Kernersville, NC; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and nephews.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday at Parklawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Wake Forest University School of Divinity, www.divinity.wfu.edu/alumni-and-friends/giving/.
