WINSTON-SALEM-Mrs. Phyllis Raburn Crotts, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Bradford Village East in Kernersville, NC. Mrs. Crotts was born on April 1, 1923 in McDowell County, NC to the late Jacob Carson Raburn, Sr. and Katy Huffman Raburn. After high school, Phyllis attended Mars Hill College and after graduating, she enrolled at North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse with Goodwill Industries and was also a faculty member with the school of nursing. During her career in nursing, she was also a substitute teacher with Forsyth County Schools and volunteered with the Red Cross. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and member of the choir. Mrs. Crotts was preceded in death along with her parents by a step-mother, Irene Raburn; a granddaughter, Laurie Anne Crotts, and a brother, J.C. Raburn, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Lewis Crotts (Brenda) of Chico, CA and Jacob Madison Crotts (June) of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Andy Crotts of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
