- Mr. Phillip David Hedgecock, 53, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born December 5, 1956 in Forsyth County to James Franklin Hedgecock, Jr. and Betty Reid Myers Hedgecock. He graduated from Parkland High School in 1975. Mr. Hedgecock was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church where, as a youth, he played in the band and in the Young Carillons handbell choir. Phillip worked as an auto mechanic as long as his health allowed and in 1999 he received a successful double lung transplant at NC Memorial. Phillip loved long motorcycle rides, woodworking, repairing, music, talking and spending time with and helping his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his brother, Ronald B. Hedgecock and wife Sharon of Lexington; his sister, Marcia Hedgecock Reich and husband Richard of Winston-Salem; three nieces, April Hedgecock Meredith (Greg) of Fancy Gap, VA, Katie Reich Martiniuk (Ryan) of Durham, and Amanda Cottrell of High Point; one nephew, Matthew C. Reich (Kristi) of Winston-Salem; one great-niece, Cora Meredith; one great-nephew, Colton Meredith; and a very special keeshond, Roscoe. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, July 1, at Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and the Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to thank Phillip's wonderful friends for their love and support during the healthy and challenging times; and special thanks to the transplant team and staff of North Carolina Memorial Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care.
