Philip Edward Rock, 66, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday, June 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 10, 1955, in Portland, OR to Rev. Ryland Franklin Rock, Jr. and Martha Charlotte Howell Rock. First and foremost, Philip loved the Lord and served him through music. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King. Philip had served as choir director for Marshall Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church. Gospel music and music in general have always been a huge part of his life. Philip always had a servant’s heart, whether it was serving at Forest Hill Volunteer Fire Department early in his life or through his career at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in the orthopedic department, he always wanted to help people. He loved to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing golf or a simple ride in his Ford truck. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Ryland Franklin Rock, Jr. Philip is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen Spencer Rock of the home; a daughter, April Roberson (Steven) of King; a son, Brad Rock (Jennifer) of Archdale; five grandchildren he loved dearly, Lanie, Carson and Gage Roberson and Charlotte and Caroline Rock; his mother, Martha Charlotte Rock; two sisters, Pamela Boles (Roger) and Joy Hardee (Kevin); two brothers, David Rock (Debbie) and Michael Rock (Linda) and several nieces, nephews and extend family. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King with Rev. John Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Gideons International.
