Philip Wayne Peters, age 36, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, after more than a year's battle with cancer. Philip was a precious gift from God. He was the loving husband of Holli Nicole, the loving father of Chris, and the loving son of Warren L. and Gloria Weaver Peters. Philip was born in Winston-Salem on July 14, 1975. He graduated from Union Grove Christian School in 1993. He obtained an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Davidson County Community College in 1995. He was employed by Terminx as a Technician until his illness. He has more recently been pursuing a Bachelor of Ministry Degree with a concentration in Pastoral Studies from Vintage Bible College. Philip was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church where he was active as a youth leader, children's church leader, and Bible school teacher. He has been an inspiration for all who were fortunate to cross his path this past year as he valiantly fought his battle with a strong faith and a need to see others secure in their relationship with God. Philip's greatest love in life was family. He also had a love of books and was an avid reader allowing him to possess a wealth of knowledge in history, theology, and even triviality which he easily shared with others. Philip was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Laura Weaver and Elmer and Kate Peters and a cousin Michelle Elizabeth Weaver. He is survived by his wife Holli N. Peters of the home and son Chris Peters of the home; mom and dad Warren L. and Gloria Weaver Peters of Winston-Salem; mother and father-in-law John and Patti Clerico of Winston-Salem; aunts and uncles Ronald and Jackie Weaver of Tampa FL; Linda K. Weaver of Greensboro; cousins Alison Alexander, Brian Alexander and Michael Weaver of Tampa, FL; Ronald Weaver, Jr. of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law Heidi Everhart and husband Daniel of Pfafftown and their son Josh. Philip and his family believe we will all be together again because we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ just as Philip urged others with the following verse, ""For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"" (John 3:16). A funeral service will be held at Friedberg Moravian Church Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. James C. Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek chapel Friday, October 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Friedberg Building Fund, 2178 Friedberg Church Road Winston-Salem, NC 27127; and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
