Mrs. Pencie Bauguess Cardwell, 92, a local artist from King, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Wilkes Co. on March 6, 1931, the daughter of the late William Bauguess and Rosa Porter Bauguess. Pencie was a member of First Baptist Church of King and previously attended Pleasant View Baptist Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church. She loved her church, family and friends, bowling, sewing and art. One of her true passions in life was art, she had artwork featured in “Our State Magazine” in 2000 and 2005. Pencie was a member of the Associated Artists and Stokes County Arts Council. Her paintings speak to her love of God’s Creation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George Franklin Cardwell and a daughter, Dawn Cardwell. She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings. Pencie is survived by two sons, Jerry Cardwell (Wanda); six grandchildren, Sherry C. Furr (Rodney), Michael J. Cardwell (Cheri), Michael T. Cardwell (Cindy) and Jerry Franklin Cardwell, Jr. (Misty); 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Lori and Hailey Bauguess. Funeral services will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church of King. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Graveside committal services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
