Peggy Long Cecil

Peggy Long Cecil 80, of Midway passed away Sunday November 4, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 5, 1932 in Midway, Davidson County, NC to Mickey Odell and Margaret Carroll Long. Mrs. Cecil spent her life caring for others; neighbors, family, friends or anyone who needed medical advice or guidance could count on her. She was always available for those around her. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from Pfeiffer College and entered the nursing program at Old City Hospital where she became a registered nurse and began her career in Winston-Salem. In 1964 she helped open Forsyth Memorial Hospital and became the Assistant Director of Nursing. During her tenure she helped to develop the modern day standard of Triage through the Inservice Education Program .In the late 70's she joined RJR Winston-Salem HealthCare as Director of Nursing from which she retired in 1994. Mrs. Cecil headed the United Way campaign at WSHC raising money for those in need. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years James Matthew Cecil, Sr, a son James Matthew Cecil, Jr., her parents, and a brother , Robert Gray Long. She is survived by two daughters Monica and Lisa Cecil, a son Tony Cecil, two sisters Ruth L. Martin and Shelby(Alton) Clinard, a daughter-in-law Meka Cecil and a great grandson Brandon (Heather) Cecil. The family would like to thank Forsyth Medical Center, the departments of ER, Critical Care and Pallliative care for their kind and compassionate care for our mother and us during this difficult time. We are eternally grateful. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Midway United Methodist Church (9795 Old US Highway 52, Lexington, NC 27295) with Rev. John Wood Officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. (3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem). Memorial donations may be made to The United Way, Midway United Methodist Church or Forsyth Humane Society.
