Mrs. Peggy Ann Jones Barber, 91, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Peggy was born on May 24, 1932, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Mr. Peter F. Jones Jr. and Mrs. Madge Smith Jones. She was raised in Laurinburg, North Carolina where she attended Caledonia United Methodist for many years, here she married her late husband, Jack Krider Barber Sr. in August of 1953. After they married, they resided in Forsyth County. Peggy and Jack became members of New Philadelphia Moravian Church in 1953, where she attended until her health no longer permitted. There, she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship group and the Open-Door Sunday School class. Peggy was a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years at Medical Park Hospital until retirement. After retirement, Peggy spent countless hours volunteering for Sunny Side Ministries in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Barber is survived by three sons, Andy (Beverly) Barber of Lewisville, NC; Alan Barber (Julie) of Advance, NC; and Jeff (Renee) Barber of Murrells Inlet, SC; one daughter, Betsy (Don) Hamby of Clemmons, NC; six grandchildren, Drew, Alex, Austin, Ashley, Olivia, and Ally; seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Pete (Rita) Jones of Welcome, NC; and three sisters, Julia McCormick of Laurinburg, NC; Gerry (Steve) Holden of Laurinburg, NC; and Carolyn (Eddie) Moore of Monroe, NC; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caretaker, Debbie Feld. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Krider Barber Sr, and a son, Brian Dale Barber, and a brother-in-law, Don McCormick. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 11, 2024, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with the Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the staff of Clemmons Village II for all their loving care and compassion for the last three years as well as Trellis Supportive Care. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the Barber family.
