Mrs. Pearl Goans Hickling, 97, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Pearl was born in Polk County, Missouri on October 27, 1918, to the late Arthur Preston Goans and Emma Melissa Davidson Goans. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Winston-Salem. Pearl retired from Sears Roebuck with twenty years of service. In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H.B. Hickling; one son, Leon Hickling; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by four children, James Hickling (Janet) of Phoenix, AZ, Brenda Sargent (Sarge) of Winston-Salem, Karen Brown of Mocksville, NC, and John Hickling (Michelle) of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Angela Hickling, Becky Hickling, Alan Hickling (Marie), Ruth Hickling, John Hickling (Jennifer), Scott Hickling, Daniel Hickling (Stormee), Michelle Hickling, Joshua Sargent, Rae' Noel Sargent, Jamie Lynn Brown Horne (Luther), and Havalah Hickling; thirteen great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Hickling of Pittsburgh, PA and Mildred Goans of Lawrence, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, August 15, 2016, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Tim Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
