Pauline Church Johnson Cook passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, two weeks after turning 98 years old. She was born December 11, 1922, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, to Worth Odell Church and Ila Elledge Church. She graduated from Griffith High School where she excelled at basketball. On October 25, 1941, Pauline married Herman Nathaniel Johnson, Sr., who predeceased her. She later married Walter “Pete” Cook, who also predeceased her. Pauline retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 35 years of service as a tour guide and inspector. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church at her time of death and previously a member at Fellowship Baptist Church. She was active in her church and continued to attend until her health declined. Pauline loved the beach and spent many summer days at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach. In addition to her parents and husbands, Pauline was predeceased by a brother, Shelmer Church; a sister, Irene Wooten; and a son-in-law, Darrell Pulliam. She is survived by a sister, Edna Bailey as well as children, Herman Nathaniel Johnson, Jr., and wife, Renee of Lancaster, South Carolina, Sandra J. Sheets and husband, Howard of Clemmons, and Pamela J. Pulliam of Lexington, South Carolina. Pauline is also survived by grandchildren, Paula Todd, Gary Sheets (Tena), Laura Quarino (Joe), Nathan Johnson, and Sarah Pulliam; and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cook will be available for viewing from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials can be made to New Friendship Baptist Church, 4258 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
