Pauline Edna Safrit Wooten, 89, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at her home. She was born February 6, 1920 in Forsyth County to Arthur James Safrit and Ollie Elizabeth Sink Safrit. She was a most loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Walter Wooten; her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Caldwell and Helen White. Surviving is one son, John (Johnny) W. Wooten, Jr. of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Geraldine (Gerald) Cope of Oak Ridge, and Joyce (Fred) Morelli of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, J. Tim Wooten (Tana) of Winston-Salem, Marie Smith (Mike) of Bethania, Bryan Cope of Austin, TX, Karrie Perreira (Jimmy) of Greensboro, John Morelli (Julie), and David Morelli (Jessi) of Winston-Salem; seven great grandchildren, Matthew Smith of Winston-Salem, Rachel Smith of Bethania, Hannah, Andrew, Abigail Wooten of Winston-Salem, Kailey and Dillon Perreira of Greensboro. Mrs. Wooten was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church for 65 years where she participated in several functions: Monday morning prayer group; Wesleyn Sunday School class; Evelyn Strader circle; and Maple Springers senior group. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 31 at Maple Springs United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Terry Matthews and the Rev. Anne Elmore officiating. Mrs. Wooten will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends in the Cokesbury room of the church following the service. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Maple Springs United Methodist Church, 2569 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Juanita Bennett, Sue Knight, Alberta Kimball, Charlene Truitt, Myrtle Church, and Hospice Palliative and Care Center.
