Mrs. Parker, better known as Polly, died July 2, 2015, in Covington, Georgia at age 90, three days short of her 91st birthday. She was born in Forsyth County on July 5, 1924 to Amanda Prevatt McGee and William Henry Marvin McGee. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her only brother, Donald McGee. She graduated from Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Parker spent the majority of her life in Forsyth County, living in Winston-Salem, Walkertown, and Lewisville. She spent the last few years in Surfside Beach, South Carolina and her final years near family in Oxford, Georgia.
Mrs. Parker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clemmons, N.C. where she was past Director of W.M.U., served on several committees there and in the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association, and served as a Trustee of North Carolina Baptist Children's Homes in Thomasville, N.C.
""Polly"" is survived by her husband of 73 years, Ernest Franklin Parker, Sr., also of Forsyth County. There are two children, Ernest Franklin Parker, Jr. of Willow Spring, N.C. and Susan Diane Parker Wright of Conyers, Georgia. Mrs. Parker has six grandchildren: Ryan Parker of Friday Harbor, Washington, Elysha Strickland of Angier, N.C., Sally Blackburn of Raleigh, N.C., Kevin Wright of Oxford, Georgia, Shannon Santee of Loganville, Georgia, and Allison Graham of Abingdon, Maryland.
There are ten great-grandchildren and number eleven due later this year: Morgan Wright, Ashleigh Wright, Taylor Wright, Iella Parker, Isaac Parker, Connor Santee, Grayson Santee, Holden Blackburn, Clay Levasseur and Ethan Collins.
Other surviving family members include: Dr. Ray Wright, Tammy Wright, Neil Strickland, Hunter Blackburn, Blythe Parker and Scott Graham.
Funeral services for Polly will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. Burial will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Mrs. Parker's favorite charities, North Carolina Baptist Children's Homes, Samaritan's Purse or the Shriner's Hospital. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family.
