Paula Garrison Eglin died on June 30, 2015 after a brief illness. Paula was born on June 24, 1930 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Doris Anderson and Paul Maxwell Garrison. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1951 from the University of Alabama and was subsequently employed as a chemist with I.E. Dupont de Nemours in Staunton, Virginia. She was married in 1957 to Stuart Baker Eglin. The Eglins made homes in Waynesboro, Santa Monica, California and were longtime residents of Atlanta
In 1971, Paula attended Georgia State University and obtained certification as a secondary science teacher. She later received Masters and Doctorate degrees. She was employed by the Cobb County Board of Education, teaching Chemistry and Physics . Paula and Stuart retired to Winston Salem in 1999.
Paula was generous with her time and talents. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and the Westwood Junior Women's Club. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America and taught youth and adult Sunday school. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Paula was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, collecting antiques and entertaining the neighborhood children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Richard Curtis Garrison . She is survived by four children and five grandchildren Anne Eglin Clowers (Dan) of Winston Salem, Susan Eglin Sykes (David) of Spartanburg, South Carolina. John Eglin of Missoula, Montana, Mike Eglin of Winston-Salem, Carrie and Katie Clowers , Aaron, Perry and Nolan Sykes.
The family invites friends to gather with spirit of celebration at the Clowers home on Thursday July 2 between five and seven PM. A private service will be held. Memorials in Paula's honor may be made to Brenner Children's Hospital (Brennerchildrens.org) or to the Make a Wish Foundation (wish.org.) Online condolences are welcome www.Hayworth-Miller.com
