Paul Gene Wilson

Walkertown - Paul Gene Wilson, age 68, of Walkertown, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2009, after a long illness. He was born July 6, 1940 in Oakwood, Virginia to the late Roscoe and Ellen Clark Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reverend Sam and Simeldia Clark of Mavisdale, VA; brother, Earl Wilson, and brother-in-law, Raymond Jackson. He proudly served his country in the US Armed Services from 1960 - 1962 and spent 30 successful years in the coal mining industry in Buchanon, Wise and Tazewell County, Virginia. Paul was a devoted husband for 46 years; the most loving father, grandfather and uncle. His family brought him much joy, especially his grandchildren. He was a proud grandpa. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Loretta Matney Wilson; daughter, Paula Wilson Gravitte and husband, Robert, of Kernersville, NC; son, Michael Dwain Wilson and wife, Amanda, of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Laura Ashton Gravitte and Ashley Nicole Gravitte of Kernersville, Cameron Michael Wilson, Jordan Alexandra Wilson and Jackson Avery Wilson of Charlotte; three sisters, Pauline Jackson of Mavisdale, VA, Susie Hill, and husband, Roger, of Covington, VA, Katherine Arrington, and husband, Fred, of Bristol, VA; two brothers, Frank Wilson and wife, Inez, of Rumzi, Mississippi, Jerry Wilson and wife, Olivia, of Oakwood, VA; one sister-in-law, Uva Wilson of Richlands, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at New Life Fellowship in Oakwood, Virginia, with Pastors and brothers Jerry Wilson and Frank Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel on Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 7 - 9 p.m. and also at New Life Fellowship in Oakwood, VA from 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be John Fields, Adam Hill, Eric Hill, David Bullins, Robert Wilson, Donnie Beavers, Dustin Jackson and Jody Matney. Honorary pallbearers will be David Hobson, Chad Hobson, Eric Hobson, Sean Hobson, Jerry Ferguson, Dr. Piva, Manuel Stillwell and James McNeil.
