KERNERSVILLE - Paul Allen Stephens, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014. He was born on January 28, 1928 to Harvey and Letha Johnson Stephens. He served two years in the Navy and was an employee of Quality Oil Company for 36 years.
Paul was a founding member of Union Cross Volunteer Fire Department. He served as chief for many years and later served on the Board of Directors. Paul came to know the Lord at Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Surry County moving his membership to Union Cross Moravian Church after he married his beloved wife, Ina Jean Tucker Stephens.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel Allen Stephens; two brothers, Otis and Dossie; and one sister, Sudie Ambridge.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his daughter, Carol Grandy (husband, Stan); two granddaughters, Laura Naylor and Catherine Martin (husband, Brady); a great grandson son, Beau Martin; a daughter-in-law, Debbie, her children (Kim and Jay) and her grandchildren; three brothers, William Arville, John and Harvey, Jr.; one sister, Irene Potts; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Union Cross Moravian Church with Rev. Don Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
Donations can be made in his honor to Union Cross Volunteer Fire Department, 4401 High Point Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284, in gratitude for the many times they came to his aide.
