Paul Roberts, Jr.

KERNERSVILLE – Paul Lee Roberts, Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 while vacationing in Florida. Paul was born on October 12, 1938 in Conway, SC to Paul Lee Roberts, Sr. and Mary Beverly Roberts. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and had a career as a dedicated truck driver for many years. After retirement, he continued his love for the open road traveling in his motorhome. Paul loved spending time with his family and was a proud PawPaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed the game of golf, especially rounds shared with his grandson, Matt.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve Roberts; three brothers, Earl, Bobby, and Ray Roberts; and two sisters, Shirley Ready, and Gail Alton.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Shirley West Roberts; a daughter, Jennifer Ayers; a son, Kenneth Roberts (Lynda); a step daughter, Donna Johnson (Gerald); two step sons, Tommy Cook (Tracie), and Paul Fulton (Mandy); 13 grandchildren, Morgan Wise (Ben), Matthew Ayers, Mackenzie Roberts, Josh Roberts, William Holt (Elizabeth), Jessica Elliott (Randall), Everette Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Brittany Slater (Jason), Brianna Cook, Caroline Fulton, Harper Fulton and Dean Fulton; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Carl Roberts (Mona); and a sister, Gwyanette Lewis.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2020 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Morrison, Rev. Frank Shumate and Rev. Paul Fulton officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at church.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Old Neck Cemetery in Brittons Neck, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church, 890 Walkertown Guthrie Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
