Winston-SalemMr. Paul Lee Parrish, Sr., 86, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 19, 1925 in Forsyth County to the late William Rutherford and Lillian Ogburn Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a member of Crews United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with Company C 724th Railway Operating Battalion in the European Theatre during WWII. Mr. Parrish later retired from Southern Bell with 37 years of service. Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Lori Ann Parham; two sisters, Ellen Fulk and Peggy Byrd and a brother, William R. Parrish. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Settle Parrish; son, Paul L. Parrish, Jr. (Cathy) of Walnut Cove; two daughters, Rebecca Parham (Rick) of Belews Creek and Carolyn Craig of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Rutherford Parrish of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Elizabeth Whicker of Winston-Salem and Rachel Platt of Sewell, NJ; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Crews United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Crady officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to thank all the healthcare providers who helped give care for Mr. Parrish.
