Paul Valentine Leonard

Paul Valentine Leonard, 96, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Paul was born on February 16, 1913, in Reeds, NC, the son of Jesse and Lena Leonard. He graduated from Reeds High School in 1933. Mr. Leonard was self-employed in the wood business during his life. He married Lillian Rice on October 14, 1939, in Martinsville, Virginia. He and Lillian had three children. He had been a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1946. Mr. Leonard served both as a deacon and elder. He was an active member of the Men of the Church and was a greeter at the door for many years. He enjoyed sports, especially playing basketball when he was young. He planted a vegetable garden every year until his death. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian; his parents and his brothers, Wade and Adam. He is survived by three children, P. Lynn Leonard and wife, Peggy of Greensboro, Cynthia Seely of Cornelius, and T. Kent Leonard of Midway; grandchildren, Brett Leonard and wife Anne of Dallas, Texas, Heather L. Harrell and husband Kevin of Pleasant Garden, NC, John David Seely of Atlanta, Georgia, James Seely of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ginger Leonard and Jeremy Leonard of Midway, NC; great -grandchildren, Katherine and Kevin Harrell; Madeleine, Lillian (Lila), and Frances Leonard; and sister, Lucy Mae Walser. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Rd. Winston-Salem, NC. Following the burial, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3627 Konnoak Drive, with Rev. Kevin Conley officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3627 Konnoak Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family would like to thank Coral Harris for being a good friend and caregiver.
