Mr. Paul Elsworth Johnson, age 79 of Rural Hall passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Johnson was born in McDowell County, May 17, 1935 to Elsworth Garland and Nannie Louise Dean Johnson. He was a member for 47 years at Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall. Mr. Johnson was the Sunday School treasurer for many years. He retired from Varco Pruden with 23 years of service. Mr. Johnson was a United States Army veteran. In addition to his parents Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two sons; Michael Anthony and James Steven Johnson. Two brothers; Charlie and John Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 57 years of marriage, Rosa S. Johnson of the home. One son, Paul Arvil (Susan) Johnson of Winston-Salem. One granddaughter, Jennifer Gilbert. Three great-grandchildren; Madison, Ethan, and McKinize Gilbert. Five sisters: Sylvia Wade of VA, Brenda Clark of East Bend, Eileen (Buddy) Tackett of Pilot Mountain, Linda (Gary) Burnette of Dobson and Thelma (Teddy) Tuttle of Rural Hall. Three brothers; Daniel Johnson, Jimmy (Christy) Johnson, and Jackie Johnson all of King. Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall by Pastor Jon White and Pastor John Byerly. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Thursday evening February 12th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
