Paul William Egleston Sr., 59, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at his beloved beach residence in North Topsail Beach. He was born on May 15, 1964, in Fresno County, California, to Barbara Sue McAlister Dobbert and Frank William Egleston. Growing up, Paul faced a plethora of adversity with determination to make the most of life. In 1984, he made the decision to join the Army. During his time in the service, he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal from his deployment to Iraq in 2005. In 2019, he retired from the Army. Proud of his accomplishments in the service and determined to make a difference following his active duty, he attended college and went on to become a history teacher. Paul, better known as “Coach E” by students, enjoyed teaching history at Northwest Guilford High School. As a state champion wrestler, Coach E was also the head coach of cross country and JV wrestling, as well as the assistant coach of varsity wrestling. Many students looked up to Coach E as a role model. Those who knew Paul saw him as a fun, light-hearted, competitive individual with a love for life and what it had to offer. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Paul is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Paula Diane Egleston, as well as his twin brother, Bill Egleston.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Barbara Dobbert; son Paul Egleston Jr. (Mónica Gelabert); daughter Christiana Troyon (Luke); three grandchildren Isabelle Gelabert, Lilith Diane Troyon, and Vergil Troyon; brother Michael Egleston; one niece and four nephews; sister-in-law Maria Egleston; and cousin Janice McAlister Moore.
