Mr. Paul Christopher Douglas, Sr., 58, of Rural Hall, NC, a most courageous man, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Even though the ALS ravaged his body, it never dwindled his tenacious spirit and will to live. He was born in Forsyth County on February 7, 1960, to Everette Agee Douglas, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Tesh Douglas. Paul was a charter member of North Point Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was a machinist by trade but his knowledge and curiosity made him an all-around "jack of all trades, master of most." He could fix anything. After graduating from Parkland High School in 1978, he began his career at Imperial Machine & Tool which later became Aigis Mechtronics. He worked with Jon Kuhn, the artist, for many years and lastly at BE Aerospace before he was no longer able to walk. Paul was a charter member of the Bad Apple's motorcycle group and rode his Harley like he stole it. Paul was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Everette and Mattie White Douglas and Oscar and Grace Tesh; step-grandfather, Everett "Papa" Evans; father-in-law, James Gray Hill; brother-in-law, Richard Wayne Hill; and a special friend, Ronnie Starbuck. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tammy Hill Douglas; children, Brittney Douglas Mitchell (Gregory) and Paul Christopher Douglas, Jr. (Erica); grandchildren, Meredith Leighann Douglas (Monkey), Adalyn Grace Mitchell, Charlee Jade Douglas, Riley James Douglas, Kayla Renee Patterson, Dakota Lane Patterson, and Evan Gene Patterson; brothers, Stephen Michael Douglas (Donna), David Jonathan Douglas; sister, Beth Douglas Chilton (Scott); mother-in-law, JoAnne Petrie Hill; brother-in-law, James Gray Hill, Jr. (Becky); several nephews, a niece, and special friends, Bobby Lohmeyer and Debbie Starbuck. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with brother Larry Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to say a very special thank you to the following: Sharon Jones and the Stokes County Hospice team for their compassionate care in Paul's final days; Suzanne Gilroy and the entire NC Chapter of the ALS Association for their dedication and support during Paul's illness; the Wake ALS team, Dr. James Caress, Theresa Johnston-Crews, Teresa Ann, and other team members; and Jason and the Stall's Medial Team in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Paul's Pirates Walk Team at The ALS Association NC Chapter, 4 N. Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
