Mr. Paul Eugene Cunningham, 89, of Clemmons, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home. He was born in Forsyth County to Harry Rogers Cunningham and Mattie Trent Cunningham. Paul graduated in 1952 from James A. Gray High School and was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and Clemmons. He was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church and employed with Duke Power Company and later retired from Amp. Inc. (Tyco). Paul was an avid outdoorsman and had a keen awareness of nature and wildlife. Bowhunting with longbows he fashioned with his own hands, brought him much joy. He was well known in the bowhunting community and made many lifelong friends. He imparted his wisdom of the outdoors to his family and grandchildren. They collected rocks, arrowheads, made walking sticks, cracked and ate walnuts from the front yard. Bowhunting has been passed down to his grandchildren and great grandsons. Their love of the outdoors can be directly traced back to time spent with Paul. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John William Cunningham and a sister, Margie Louise Hutchens. Paul was truly blessed to have a loving, faithful wife who took wonderful care of him throughout his life. She lent the support that allowed him to enjoy his passions for 64 years, Marion McCall Cunningham. Also surviving are one daughter, Alice Boone (David); one son, Michael Cunningham (Lisa); four grandchildren, Alice Anne Coakley (John), Hugh Kenneth Leatherman, III (Cate), Madeline Cunningham and Olivia Cunningham; three great grandchildren, Jack Coakley, Hicks Leatherman and Tucker Leatherman; a nephew, Ronnie Hutchens (Rosie) and a niece, Susan Kloc (John) and cousins, Brenda C. Elliott (Harold) and Suzanne C. Williams (Jim). Thank you to special angels, Gail and Marty Beeson. Thank you for your loving compassion, overwhelming help and constant care. You have been much more like family than neighbors. Thank you to those who have visited, shared stories and loved Paul. Lastly, thank you to Trellis, Davie Team for providing outstanding care and support. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Salem Cemetery with Rev. Christopher C. Thore officiating. Memorials may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church or to Trellis Supportive Care. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Cunningham family.
