Mr. Paul Daniel ""Dan"" Brown, 85, of Walnut Cove died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at his home. He was born August 9, 1925 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Tyre Everett and Lillie Alice Hughes Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Burnsville for over 35 years. He was a graduate of James A. Gray High School, attended Guilford College, and received his Engineering Degree from Purdue University. He served with the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of ASQC, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and was a Junior Achievement Advisor. He was a Scout Master at Union Cross and Chief of the Union Cross Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of Winston-Salem Pioneer Lodge # 685. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew Alan Brown; one brother, Robert Odell Brown and three sisters, Stella Hedrick, Gladys Harrell and Lillie Harrelson. Survivors include his wife, Betty ""Billie"" Baynes Brown of the home; three sons, Alex Brown and wife, Sara of Lakeland, FL, David Brown and wife, Linda of Walnut Cove and Tim Brown and wife, Jeannie of Surf City; one granddaughter, Amy Brown Woodward of Riverview, FL; five great grandchildren, Lindsey Diane Brown, Luke Brown, Jake Brown, Elijah Woodward and Wyatt Woodward; two sisters, Eva Opal Groce of Clemmons and Mary Brown Allen and husband, Wayman of Burnsville; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Joe Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
