Mr. Paul Dewey Bennett, 103, of Germanton died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Walnut Cove Healthcare Center. Paul was born in Stokes County on March 25, 1909 to the late Pinkney Ollie and Nancy Warner Bennett. He was a Deacon and devoted member of Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church in Germanton. Paul retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1977 with 27 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and people coming by to visit. Paul was a southern gentleman and a true example of a Christ-like man. He always put others above himself and he will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death his wife of 77 years, Clarice Holland Bennett; two sisters; four brothers; a great-grandson, Christopher Chase Venable; a daughter-in-law, Shelby Bennett; and a grandson-in-law, Mitch Venable. Surviving are two sons: Don H. Bennett and Shirley G. ""Shorty"" Bennett (Brenda) both of Germanton; four grandchildren: Debbie Caudle (Greg), Worth Bennett (Carla), Cheryl Venable and Steve Bennett; six great-grandchildren: Kyle Caudle (Charla), Caleb Caudle, Haley and Austin Bennett, Bethany Godwin (Steven) and Wesley Venable; one great, great-grandchild, Blake Mitchell Godwin; and also, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastors Gary Sanders and Kyle Caudle officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church, 8104 Red Bank Road, Germanton, NC 27109.
