Winston-Salem-Mrs. Patti Lawson Payne, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice. She was born November 7, 1938 in Stokes County, the daughter of James Edd and Edith Harger Lawson. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church, where she had served as a deacon, greeter and member of numerous committees. Patti loved to travel, she enjoyed flower gardening and loved to cook. She was a generous, loving person who was accepting of others and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Porter Payne; two sisters, Myrtle Cardwell and Barbara Wright and one brother, Eugene Lawson. Surviving family includes two daughters, Maricia Duryea and husband, Charles of Pfafftown and Lori Winters and husband, John of Winston-Salem; two beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Winters of Greenville and Mallory Winters and fiancé, Jay Booth of Leland; great grandchild, Hayden Booth; a much loved and devoted sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Jim Jackson of Winston-Salem and several nieces, nephews and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Northwest Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ellen Strickland and Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
