OAK RIDGE - Patricia Hopkins Langston, 49, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, September 16, 2016 while at home. Her family will receive friends beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Homes in the Kernersville Chapel location. A memorial service will be held following at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Pat Cronin officiating. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 with Pastor Steve Waters officiating at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Patterson Springs, NC.
A native of Michigan, Patty was born May 23, 1967. Her family later relocated to Indiana where Patty graduated high school in 1985. She then went on to double-major in Early Education and Bible at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN, graduating with a B.S. degree in 1990. Following, she moved to Kernersville, NC to work with First Christian Church. She later worked other jobs before finally pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher. Over the years, Patty taught science and mathematics at Northeast Guilford Middle School in McLeansville, Kimberley Park Elementary School and also Forsyth Charter Academy in Winston-Salem, as well as Trexler Middle School in Richlands, NC. Most recently she served as an educator and volunteer coordinator with SciWorks children's museum in Winston-Salem before her health began to seriously decline.
Patty is survived by her husband Mark Brooks Langston, her mother-in-law Sylvia Borders Langston, and their extended family; her parents Edward Ernest Hopkins and Carolyn Sue Wilson Hopkins; her three sisters Dawn Webb, Kathy Orr, and Beth Kay; her brothers-in-law Scott Webb and Rick Orr; twelve nieces and nephews, and other family.
