SUMMERFIELD-Pat McCuiston, 84, of Summerfield, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Wesley Long Hospital. A WWII Navy Veteran, Pat retired from Southern Rubber Company and tobacco farming. Prior to this, he worked at Cone and Guilford Mills. He remained active on the McCuiston farm cutting hay and raising beef cattle. He was born in Summerfield (Guilford County) on October 17, 1924 to James (Jim) Calvin and Hazel Kirk McCuiston. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCuiston was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Stafford McCuiston; and brothers, John Henry McCuiston, William (Bill) Odell McCuiston and Max Ray McCuiston. Pat is survived by children, Malinda McCuiston Bair, and husband, Jeff, James (Jim) Ivie McCuiston, and wife, Robin, and Patsy McCuiston Jonas, all of Summerfield; three grandchildren; Crystal Anderson, and husband, Jeremy, of Oak Ridge, Jamie Keene, and husband, Anthony, of Raleigh, and Cody McCuiston of Summerfield; two great grandchildren; Zachary and Erin Anderson; a long time family friend, Gary Wayne Vogt of Kernersville; a brother, Claude McCuiston (Reidsville), sisters, Cora Lee Hutchins (Greensboro), Margaret Gauldin (Baltimore, MD), Betty Jean Roberts (McLeansville), Mary Jane Mickel (DeFuniak Springs, FL), Joan Pearson (Reidsville) and Shirley Booth (Kernersville). A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at A-I Cemetery in Oak Ridge. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Monday, January 12, 2009 at Hayworth, Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel and any other time at the home of Jim McCuiston. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville is assisting the family.
