Osbon Carroll

Osbon Gordon "Pete" Carroll, 102, died on February 10, 2018 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living in Clemmons. Pete, who was born in King on January 22, 1916, was the son of Gaston Abraham and Ella Gentry Carroll. His father died of pneumonia in December before Pete was born in January. Pete was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Sixth Armored Division in Europe under the direction of General George Patton. He assisted in the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. Pete was a farmer. He married Myrtle Bledsoe on December 20, 1945. They resided in Dobson where Pete lived until he moved to Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville in May 2015. He was active in the Copeland Ruritan Club, where he was the oldest living charter member. He was also a Mason and served as Master of the Copeland Lodge 390 A.F. & A.M. Pete was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle, his sister Ruth Ahrens, and his two brothers, Bob and Jack. He is survived by his son Dennis Carroll (Connie) of Jamestown; two grandchildren, Bruce Carroll (Sarah) of High Point, and Kelli Carroll of Dallas, Texas; and two great granddaughters, Emma and Sadie Carroll of High Point. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Jane Carroll Sizemore of King, Ila Mae Bledsoe O'Neal of Dobson, and Betty Bledsoe of Mount Airy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. Pete will be buried in the cemetery of the New Home Church of Christ in Surry County. A graveside service will be conducted by the Copland Masonic Lodge. The family would like to thank the staffs at Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville and Mallard Ridge of Clemmons for their special care and attention. The family is also indebted to Carol Edwards for her companionship and support for the last 8 years, and to Gary York, whose friendship and devotion were unsurpassed. Memorials can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, the Copeland Ruritan Club, 975 Copeland School Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Cemetery Fund of New Home Church of Christ, 186 New Home Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
